Bird Watching

Growing up as a kid, I was lucky enough to be exposed to a range of reserves within southern Africa. These diverse habitats were always viewed through a pair of binoculars, and birds were always our quarry.  This culminated in a MSc thesis in bird research, and subsequently guided bird tours in the greater Cape Town region. Tours can be general in nature, or highly specific in search of endemic species such as Cape Rock-jumper or Orange-breasted Sunbird. They range from searching for Cape Spurfowl in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, to pursuing the plethora of waders along Langebaan lagoon (Ramsar site) in the West Coast National Park. There are also boat tours for Pelagic species where up to 6 Albatross species can be seen in one day!
